Review: Crank (2006)

Directors: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor
Starring: Jason Statham, Amy Taylor, Jose Pablo Cantillo

Yes, I finally got my DVDs that I ordered from an online store. Of course I watched Crank first since I've seen Lock, Stock... before.

Plot is: Chev Chelios (what a great name) is injected with a Chinese poison that will kill him if his adrenalin level goes down.

The way this movie is shot reminds me of Baz Luhrmann, Guy Ritchie and Sam Raimi's early work. The camera is mostly handheld and in the action sequencens (which there is a lot) it works very well.

Crank's humour is brilliant. The visual jokes that seem a bit cartoonish at times reminded me of Roger Rabbit. Overall there is a surrealistic feel trough the whole movie. I can't wait to see what the writer/director duo come up with next.

This film really was "an adrenaline fueled thrill ride."

Stars: ****

P.S. Yes, Statham is shirtless in this movie too.

Let's just say I didn't like it. The idea was plunt to my taste and I didn't have the energy to watch pointless wrecking, running amock etc. and "hey, let's try this effect so this movie 'll look cool"-camera effects. The movie crook from the beginning was hilarious the wrong way (the director propably 'd've wanted him to be more thug-like than ridiculous)..
"Love me long time"

Personally i think Statham should really start looking for different movie scrips other than action (Uwe Boll's In the Name of the King does not count). He was cool in Transporter but now he is getting dryer and duller *and totally boring* every minute.

And it remains to be seen what he will come up with Crank 2: more shagging/running/shooting/fighting/shooting/running/shagging/killing/running -and a monkey up to the space. The excitement is almost unbearable!

But must grant this, the trailer was nice due to music + editing.

And must still add to all fairness. This type of movies are not my cup of tea but those who like the genre will like this.
